Arcadia Refuge Featured in BPA Newsroom

Writer: Stormi HoebelheinrichStormi Hoebelheinrich

We’re thrilled to share that Arcadia Refuge was recently featured in the BPA Newsroom for Pollinator week! This article highlights the budding stage of our journey to bring regenerative agriculture to Vancouver, WA, and our mission to create a thriving, sustainable farm for our community. Huge thanks to Bonneville Power Administration for taking the time to review our proposal and support our effort!

Our proposal caught the attention of BPA’s Pollinator Workgroup, as it aligns with principles of permaculture, regenerative agriculture, and sustainability. The farm is designed to not only produce local food but also serve as a model for ecological stewardship. Selling goods grown on-site will support the long-term viability of the project without placing financial strain on BPA.

Before the transformation can begin, several logistical and regulatory hurdles must be addressed. BPA’s team reviewed land use restrictions, underground utilities, and vegetation management requirements. Key findings included the need to obtain permission from Clark County due to an agricultural rights agreement dating back to 1940 and ensuring compliance with BPA’s infrastructure guidelines.

Despite these challenges, BPA supports the vision, and the next step involves coordinating with the county and formalizing a land use agreement. While it will take time to bring this vision to life, this feature highlights the potential for urban spaces to be repurposed into productive, environmentally beneficial landscapes.
